“ I had the pleasure of trying their famous beef wellington and wow, it did not disappoint. I've tried many other wellingtons in the past and this easily takes the medal home. The detail that they place in each layer and each step in preparation really comes through and makes a huge difference in the overall product. The only regret I have is not discovering Missing Chopsticks earlier. ”
“ Excellent tasting menu, and great bang for the buck as well. Chef tells a compelling story throughout the menu, with a rich fusion of Chinese flavors and French technique. The sablefish and duck are certainly two classics, with the only less memorable item being the fish in the second course, but that’s only because the tomatoes were beautifully sweet and vibrant and frankly overshadowed the delicate fish. Can’t wait to come back and try their Wellington! Oh, and the complimentary tea served in between the two main courses was also lovely. ”
“ Celebrated my anniversary here. It was a fabulous meal. Missing chopsticks is an intimate open kitchen restaurant. Each dish was made with great attention to detail and unique flavour combination. The beef Wellington was cooked to perfection it is a must have add on. My favourite dish of the night was the duck confit, the curry foam was such a delight. Highly recommend ”
“ Came here for dinner with my wife and another couple friend for the dine out menu, we were all very happy with the experience. Food was phenomenal, especially the beef Wellington and chicken entree, as well as the risotto. The owner and the chef came several times, not only to introduce meals, but to make sure we had everything we needed. Service was very personable and friendly and we felt very well taken care of. Overall, a very pleasant and positive dining experience. Would highly recommend. ”
“ Took husband here for his birthday dinner. Very small, very intimate with open kitchen. Love how small and subtle everything is. Great attention to detail. Husband had a wine pairing dinner, as I’m pregnant they very kindly made sure that the sashimi dish was slightly seared for me. These guys really deserve all the attention they’ve been getting. Great meal, great service, beautiful technique and wonderful combination of flavours. Would 100% dine again. ”
“ Amazing food! We have been here twice and the second time we had the Beef Wellington. We have had Beef Wellington at Ramsays restaurant in London and at Le Crocodile in Vancouver and this was definitely better! The service was good, but could be better, the first time we went we awkwardly stood at the door for a good 5min before even being greeted, the second time was better, the waitress was very friendly, but didn’t know much about wine or the food served. Overall great restaurant, would highly recommend! ”
“ “Missing Chopsticks? That’s such an odd name for a restaurant.” That was my first thought when a HK friend of mine told me how much she loved the place—especially considering how picky of an eater she is. Why Missing Chopsticks? Did they not provide chopsticks? Or was it because chopsticks weren’t needed for the kind of food they served? That question lingered in my mind—until we had a chance to speak briefly with the owner, who shared the story behind the restaurant’s name and concept when we joined them for dinner during its final days of operation. Missing Chopsticks was a name his wife came up with when they first dreamed of opening a restaurant. It carries a deeper meaning: “Missing the Chopsticks” represents a longing for cultural roots. As the owner explained, chopsticks aren’t typically used in Western cuisine here in Vancouver or anywhere else across the globe. The name reflects their desire to bring the heritage and flavors of HK into a Western dining context—reimagined through the lens of French culinary technique. They envisioned a space where guests could feel a sense of belonging, inspired by the philosophy of 私房菜 (Si Fang Cai)—a private, home-style dining tradition that emphasizes personal stories, cultural heritage, and a close connection between chef and guest. It’s a concept reflected not just in the food, but also in the restaurant’s hidden location in an industrial unit in Richmond. With that in mind, I now understand why Chef Toby is so invaluable to the team. While it might be easy to find chefs trained in French culinary techniques, it’s rare to find someone who not only excels in that craft but also brings a deep cultural understanding and lived experience that enriches every dish. Their most recent menu, Taste of Home, feels like the perfect conclusion to the story they’ve been telling since day one. It beautifully embodies the spirit of the restaurant and honors the cultural heritage that shapes their culinary journey. Each bite is comforting and familiar, yet presented with elegance and care. If you’ve seen your share of HK films or wandered through travel vlogs, you’ll recognize the spirit of it: a street-side breakfast before work, a warm toast after school. As for the food itself, the soup was my personal favourite—deeply comforting and soul-soothing, like something lovingly made on a quiet evening at home. As for the mac and cheese? Seriously, how can someone make something so classic taste that good? It was rich, perfectly balanced, and infused with a warmth that felt both nostalgic and delightfully unexpected. The beef Wellington stood out immediately—its seasoning carried a distinctly Asian essence, transforming a Western classic into something entirely new, yet uncannily familiar. And the French toast? I wish I could have it everyday. I overheard a conversation at a cafe yesterday where someone said, “Good food only comes from where culture is nurtured and grown.” That line stayed with me—because they were right. Technique can be learned, and dishes can be replicated, but the ability to put your story on a plate, to make someone feel seen and remembered through a dish—that is something else entirely. And that’s what I found at Missing Chopsticks - a place where the food not only satisfied my palate but also nourished my heart and fulfilled my mind. I had known about them for a while. Always meaning to go, but always assuming I had time. That something this special would simply wait for me. But food like this doesn’t wait. Nor should it. Because once you’ve tasted it—once you’ve felt it—you realize that what you’ve been served is more than just a mere dinner. It’s memory. It’s home. It’s a love letter to culture, identity, and everything we quietly miss. And so, like so many others, I find myself thinking - “I wish I had found you sooner.” ”
“ Amazing food. Loved every bites. Special thanks to the owner for birthday shots :) It was great! Everyone loved it Their dessert was perfectly made. Not too sweet and not too heavy taste from its ingredients. It was just perfect I had to take my friend’s dessert bc it was incredibly good. Most of all, there was not a single complaint about the food from my picky-eating-friends when it comes to food. They change their menu every 8 weeks so please go check it out You will be sad to miss this place out. ”
